Kelli had a some thoughts about Christmas that she wanted to write. Part I.
Is this anyway to treat a King?
During the Christmas season we focus on the very uplifting story of the birth of Christ. We seldom remember the very unmerry situations about his birth and life.
For instants a young girl named Mary, approximately 13, said yes to an angel sent by God telling her she would give birth to a son even though she was never with a man. “Let it be to me according to your word” Mary replied.
Shame on You
The social stigma of this obedience to God brought shame to her and her fiancé, Joseph. Jewish law required that Joseph stone her. Consequently, Joseph was shamed and humiliated not wanting to stone her, he was going to quietly divorce her. As a result , the angel of the Lord came to him and said “Joseph Mary’s is with child and this is my doing.” Joseph submitted his will to God’s will and obeyed God’s word.
Socially and emotionally this was a very unmerry situation!
Vacation in Egypt?
As the story goes Jesus was born in very humble surroundings. His birth brought heaven and earth together, divinity and humanity all wrapped up in one baby boy!
Gifts came from the wise men: gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Little did Mary and Joseph know these gifts would sustain them financially as a death threat was put on their toddlers head by King Herod. They fled to Egypt for safety. Unfortunately many toddlers were slaughtered because of one kings thirst for power and control!
A very unmerry situation.
